Jawai Dam Exploring

A highlight of any trip to the region is a visit to the Jawai Dam constructed by Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur on 12th May 1946 and completed in 1957. The large reservoir is home to many species of migratory and residential birds and provides incredible sightings of species like the Saris Crane, Indian Courser, Osprey, Pelicans, Bar-Headed Geese, Waterfowl, pipits, larks, particles, and other raptors to mention just a few. With over a hundred bird species to see and photograph, a day at Jawai is incredibly rewarding.

The best time to visit is from November – March. This is the biggest dam in the western Rajasthan and has been a paradise for migratory birds and it has a rich Biodiversity. You can also see a large variety of migratory birds like Spot-billed duck, comb duck, Sari's cranes, Geese, Common Crane, Demoiselle Crane, Northern Pintail, wagtails, pelicans in winters, while Crocodiles keep basking at Jawai dam.
